Making of: PHOTO MANIPULATION #1 – Magical Forest

If you've enjoyed the 'Making Of' for my book covers, then you'll like these too. It's purely about photo manipulation. In each article, I'll showcase one of my photo manipulation pieces and screenshots of the process.

Photo manipulation allows for concepts to come to life through photography. Even utilizing common photos, the result should be unique. This is why this is such a common technique used for book cover design.

Today's photo manipulation is called Magical Forest. I've come across the beautiful stock photo by FaeStock at DeviantArt, and I was immediately inspired. I thought it would look lovely as part of a Fantasy setting. And because I'm a Fantasy lover, this was the result.

1. I always start by imagining the setting and browsing through stock elements that would help me achieving a consistent result.

2. It's time for some painting work.

3. This amazing hair stock makes things so much easier.

4. With a breathtaking background like this, it's difficult to get it wrong.

5. Almost there! It's a Fantasy piece so we need some more sparkles.

And we're done. Don't forget to properly credit all your sources if they require attribution or to purchase the commercial licenses if you intend to use your final piece for commercial purposes. This one was a personal project - like most of them on my DeviantArt account (go have a look if you want).

Credits: Very important. I wouldn't have been able to do this photo manipulation without these amazing stock resources:

Model / Elf ears / Rapunzel hair / Background / Textures / Birds / Stars / Ivy / Flare / Glitter / Clouds / Veil
